Zvjezdane Staze
Artist residency · Mijakovići · BiH
Spaces
Zvjezdane Staze is in Mijakovići, a small mountain village above Vareš, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The property has a main house (upper floor, ground-floor apartment, and cellar), the Mutvak (a small building on two floors), a separate building with the Muзički studio, and outdoor areas (terraces, a courtyard with an outdoor kitchen, an orchard, and the Šadrvan, a garden pavilion). There are four studios: the Muзički studio, the large one, with a quadrophonic setup, and three smaller multifunctional ones, two in the Mutvak and one in the apartment. Across the main house and the Mutvak, there is room for up to five artists in their own rooms, or up to eight when rooms are shared. The main house was renovated between 2022 and 2024 with care for its traditional Bosnian character: handwoven ćilim and vez, traditional wooden detailing, alongside contemporary comfort and infrastructure.

Multifunctional unit
Apartment
Self-contained unit on the ground floor. Contains a bedroom (double bed), kitchen, bathroom, living and dining room (which also serves as the library), and a studio (two monitors, Yamaha digital piano, small mixer, work desk). The library holds books in six languages (Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, German, English, Russian, Spanish, and Italian), as well as scores and vinyl. A wood-burning stove heats the apartment.
Default arrangement: the kitchen, the studio, the library, and the washing machine are shared with everyone in the house; the bedroom functions as a fourth artist room. Alternate arrangement: when fewer residents are present, or when agreed in advance, the apartment can be assigned to one resident or couple. Its studio, library, and washing machine stay open to everyone staying here. What the apartment adds is space and quiet; access is the same either way.
