Zvjezdane Staze is open to artists, writers, researchers, and visitors. Below you'll find how to apply for residencies and programmes, or how to join as a guest.
For Artists
Residencies
The main format. Come to work on your own project. Rolling open call, year-round.
Open residency
For individuals and collectives working across disciplines: composers, sound artists, visual artists, writers, researchers, filmmakers, curators, interdisciplinary practitioners.
About the sliding scale
You choose what you can afford within the range. This is based on trust, it's how we make the residency accessible without external funding.
A portion of all contributions goes back to the village. See our Transparency page.
What's included
- Private room in the main house or garden studio
- Workspace: desk, wifi, quiet
- Shared kitchen: fully equipped, self-catering
- Garden and land access: meadow, forest edge
- Recording studio: mixer, audio interface, monitors, field recorder (by arrangement)
Not included: travel, food, materials. We can help with logistics and local sourcing.

Application process
Send us an email
Tell us about yourself, your work, what you'd like to do during a residency, and when you're thinking of coming. Include a few links or images. No formal application form — just a conversation starter.
We respond
Within a week, usually. Sometimes we have a video call. Sometimes we just confirm dates. Depends on the programme and availability.
Confirm and prepare
We send practical information, you arrange travel, and we meet you in Vareš or Sarajevo.

🜂 Raзgovoriшte — Literary weekends
One author, one book, one conversation. Four weekends per year. Up to 5 guest spots per weekend.
Includes: two nights accommodation (Friday–Sunday), participation in all activities. Food not included. Cook in the shared kitchen or eat at the local agro-household.
⊛ Dvonoćje — Summer solstice festival
Two days around the summer solstice. Performances, installations, sound walks, shared meals. Come for the day or stay overnight.
Frequently asked
Can I bring a partner / family?
Sometimes, depending on capacity and programme. Ask us.
Is it suitable for remote work?
Yes, we have reliable wifi. But we encourage disconnection if your work allows.
Do I need to speak Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian?
No. English and German work fine. But a few words of BKS are always appreciated.
Can I come in winter?
Yes, but the house is heated with wood. It's cozy, but you help keep the fire going.
