Melanie Sapina explores the tension between documentary observation and intimate proximity, balancing at the intersection of portrait and reportage photography. Her photo essays record identity, fragility, and the inner fractures of youth and subcultural spaces. The project “Backyard of Europe,” dedicated to the internal and external borders of post-war Bosnian society, has been presented internationally — including at the European Month of Photography in Berlin and the QIPO Fair in Mexico.
